He began his career as a child artist in the film Vetri(1984), produced by his father S.A Chandrashekhar. He made his debut with the film NaalayaTheerpu(1992),this film was also produced by his father. Being a son of famous celebrities did not help him much, he struggled a lot in his career and saw lots of ups and downs. But, he didn’t gave up and kept on moving.

He rose to prominence by starring in a commercially successful film, Poove Unakkaga(1996), which marked a turning point in his career. He started doing the commercially successful films from then on. “Thottapetta Roatmella,” was the first song of Vijay from the movie Vishnu. He played a lead role in this film and also sang the songs in this film.
